According to the sociologist Ferdinand Tonnies there is two main types of communities. There is Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft. Both are German born words. Gemeinschaft means commune or community. Gesellscaft means association. Overall, gemeinschaft pertains to a small community were everyone should know one another by a first name basis. Gesellschaft relates to an even more urban world were associations are more corriente.
In a gemeinschaft society everyone knows everyone else. All the people play a role and they all support one another. There is a good sense of togetherness in a gemeinschaft. However in a gesellschaft, people understand each other on an impersonal level. They also have no a strong feeling of togetherness and they no longer work as one big group.
There are equally advantages and disadvantages surviving in a gemeinschaft. The advantages are: safety, friendship, strong provides with other users and there is constantly support. A gemeinschaft is safe because it's a smaller community and everyone concentration one another. A gemeinschaft is much less likely to have similar problems that an urban area would. Like: gangs, drugs, homicides, and rape. By living in a gemeinschaft you would probably make close friends. Since there are a small number of people, you will get to know everybody really well. When ever somebody has trouble with something, they might always have somebody they can turn to who they can trust. Because it is a select few, when someone is ill or something different is wrong, everyone in the town knows. Since everyone knows, the person that is certainly sick will probably get support from many people.
Together with the advantages additionally, there are some cons living in a gemeinschaft. These disadvantages are: little personal privacy, seeing a similar people day-to-day, and its difficult to broaden the horizons. There is very little personal privacy in a gemeinschaft. If you have a problem that you want nobody to know, it is hard to hide because everyone knows you at a personal level....
